“ALL ON THE GO” Mobile Insurance System

The major problems that the insurance companies facing are that when there was an accident for vehicle,  then the insurance company agent have to visit that place and have to bring the related documents and then need to collect all the necessary information including client details and take photos of the accident for the claim. It consumes more time and since the process is manual, it’s too complicated.  The other problem is that when there is an accident, it’s hard for the insurance company to find the closest agent to the accident location. Currently they use phone to communicate and find the closest agent. It takes too much time and also money consuming. Because of the delay in the arrival of the agent, the client also gets frustrated and this may lead him to change the insurance company.

These problems can be overcome by using this application. By providing an Identity card with a barcode to each client, the client information can be found from the online database within seconds by using the bar code reader in this system. Since the system itself has the camera facilities, the images of the accident can be taken and uploaded to the server through GPRS/3G. It will reduce the time and also enables the main decision makers in the company to check the images and estimate the value of the damage from the company and their decision will be passed to the agent through this system. This will increase the accuracy of the cost estimation and more benefited to the company. Also this system has GPS which works with Google map, enables the company to find the agent who is more close to the accident location. It also provides the information about the possible road direction to and the distance details to the agent through the Google map.  Another advantage with this GPS in this system is that, it allows the agent to record the exact accident location. All these functions works with the Google map. By using this system the agent can easily add all the details and images required for the claim directly to the online database.

The other problem is when the company promotes themselves through the sales agents who travel to the places like offices and houses to promote their insurance policy. This System let them to keep all the necessary information with them and also when they get a client, they can immediately update all the information about the client directly from that place. It reduces the paper works and saves more time.  Also when the sales agent is unable to solve or answer some specific problems asked by the customers, they will be able to communicate with the company directly and let the expert to solve the issue or they can find the solution by accessing the knowledgebase online database using this system. By this real time problem/issue solving the insurance company can attract more customers toward them.  Another advantage is that using the GPS the company can track the locations of their sales agents and also can track whether they are idling from work or not. It’s more useful to track the performance of their agents as well.

The other major problem is related to the life insurance. When a customer fall sick and apply for the claim, then the company should be able to deliver their service to them very quickly as possible. As described above in the vehicle insurance part, this issue also can be solved by using this system. Another major advantage is that, the agent is able to add all the information of the customer including the type of illness and other details, which can help the insurance company processes with that customer. Because insurance company can have a track of records about the claims and other details about the customer and it can be accessed at anytime from anywhere using this system.

Since there are lots of insurance companies in Sri Lanka and all over the world, this application will have a huge impact on their business quality and also in the amount of customers that they are maintaining. Due to the high competition between the companies all the companies are looking for some alternative ways to increase their customer base.  The current manual process of the papers takes too much time and also reduces the accuracy. Since this kind of system provides lots of benefits to the company, this product will gain high popularity among the industrial people. Also the agent is able to find the history of the customer’s previous claims on the spot using this device; he will be able to find the available maximum claim for that particular customer.  Since it provides lots of benefits, the demand of this system in market will be very high.

Even though the proposed system is targeted towards the insurance companies, the same system can be used by the electricity department, major pizza delivering shops, gift shops with very few modifications in the data modelling. Next to the insurance companies, this system will provide higher benefits for the civil construction companies where they can issue these devices to the site engineers to manage the day to day site activities. Specially in cost estimation and ordering the required materials and plants for the site. Also enables to update daily progress and expense details of site construction to the main office database.

Therefore it provides benefit not only for the insurance companies and it can be used in other industries as well with minimum changes. Therefore we would like to propose this system not only limited to the insurance company, but also to others which are mentioned above.

The targeted mobile device should have the following features.

  • GPRS/3G support (WIFI optional)
  • Bar code reader
  • Touch screen for quick and easy access
  • GPS
  • Camera
  • Mobile printer is preferable when there is a necessary to print receipts/notes while out of the company premises.
  • And enough processing and memory capacity.

Please note that only the major features are listed in this abstract and the small features such as searching client’s details and other basic facilities are not included in this abstract.
